Saturday, October 15, 2022 (6PM) DEAN’S AUTO PLAZA NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS: 410 Sprints and 358 Sprints [rain date: October 16]

Saturday & Sunday, February 25-26, 2023 ICE BREAKER WEEKEND

Abbottstown, PA (October 6, 2022) – Giovanni Scelzi had yet to have success at Lincoln Speedway but that all changed Thursday night at the Brian Montieth Classic. Scelzi drew the 1 in the redraw, putting him on the pole for the 35-lap $7,500 to win feature. The first words out of his mouth in victory lane were, “I think hell froze over if I won at this place. I’ve struggled my whole career here. Drawing the 1 definitely helped.”

Scelzi found himself in lapped traffic late in the race which allowed Buddy Kofoid to close in and take a shot at the lead, “I couldn’t quite tell who it was. I knew with those lappers in front of me someone would be closing.” A caution with two laps to go re-aligned the field and set up Scelzi for his first career Lincoln win. Scelzi joked in victory lane, “I also said if I ever won a 410 race here I’m going to retire so I hope you guys enjoyed it this is the last time you’ll ever see me race.”

Giovanni ran the high line around the track most of the race and when asked about the similarity to the driving style of the night’s honoree, Brian Montieth, Scelzi shared, “I can’t run the top quite as hard as he can, I think I need to shave my head.”

Scelzi took the lead from the pole when the green flag dropped with Brian Brown in second and Kyle Reinhardt in third. Justin Peck got by Dylan Norris at the line for fourth.

Reinhardt was searching the bottom, looking for a way around Brown for second. Scelzi was pulling away from the field as Brown, Reinhardt and Peck battled for second. Giovanni entered lapped traffic on lap 6, right before the caution came out on lap 7 when Glenndon Forsythe slowed on the back stretch. Forsythe had been running in the top 10.

Scelzi, Brown, Reinhardt, Peck and Norris were the top five for the restart. Reinhardt looked under Brown for second and took the spot coming out turn 2. Cory Haas brought out the caution on lap 8 when he stopped coming out of turn 2.

Peck was all over Brown on the restart and the two were nose to tail at the line. Norris  was holding off a charge by Buddy Kofoid right behind them. Kofoid got by Norris for fifth and went to work on Peck. Buddy slid Peck for fourth in turn 2 and took the spot on lap 13. Scelzi found himself in lapped traffic again on lap 15 with two lapped cars racing side by side in front of him, allowing Reinhardt to close in.

Kofoid reeled in Brown and the two were side by side at the line on lap 18. Kofoid took third from Brown on lap 19. Peck followed, taking fourth.

Reinhardt got caught behind a lapped car allowing Kofoid to close in. Kofoid tried a slide job on Reinhardt for second on lap 22 but did not complete the pass.

Danny Dietrich was on the move running sixth with 10 laps to go after starting 19th. Kofoid got by Reinhardt for second on lap 25. Once again, Peck followed taking third.

Kofoid was closing in on Giovanni as they both ran the top line around the track. Kofoid was on Scelzi’s bumper with 3 laps to go at the line.

The yellow flag waved on lap 33 when Devon Borden stopped in turn 4.

Scelzi, Kofoid, Peck, Reinhardt and Dietrich lined up for a green, white, checkered finish.

Both Gio and Buddy went high in turns 1 and 2. Scelzi held on to win and crossed the line .970 seconds ahead of Kofoid. Peck finished third and Dietrich was the hard charger, finishing fourth after starting 19th. Reinhardt completed the top five.

Justin Peck set quick time over the 36-car field with a lap time of 13.299 seconds.

This Saturday, October 8, Lincoln Speedway is back in action with the Lazer Late Model Clash featuring the super late models, 358 sprint cars and Central PA Legends. Racing starts at 6PM with pit gates open at 3:30PM and grandstands open at 4PM.
