“THE LAST CALL” FOR FRED RAHMER BECOMES “SEND OFF SUNDAY” FOR LOGAN SCHUCHART
Oct 20, 2013, 22:12
Email this article
 Printer friendly page

Rahmer & Cris Eash end sprint car careers with top five finishes in 410, 358 sprint car features;

Will Walls wins second of the year, brother Brian Walls claims 2013 track title in thundercars

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA, 10/20/13 –“Fred Rahmer’s a great guy. I’ve only been able to race with him for my first two years, but he’s a heck of a race car driver and a legend, and made the PA Posse what it is.”

So said Logan Schuchart after claiming “The Last Call” 25-lap 410 sprint car feature at Lincoln Speedway Sunday night.

“We hoping that some of us young guys can take the torch and kick the Outlaws butts for another 35 years for him,”

added Schuchart.

After Lincoln recognized Fred Rahmer’s brilliant 35-year career in a retirement tribute at intermission, Schuchart scored the win at his home track in his final Lincoln race before joining the World of Outlaws for the 2014 season.

“We’re going to the World of Outlaws next year,” said Schuchart, “I’m proud to win our last race at Lincoln as a home town guy,” added Schuchart, “Pennsylvania is my home. I love racing here every week. I love sprint car racing. There’s nothing like it.”

Joining his nephew on the World of Outlaws tour next year will be Jacob Allen, who finished seventh in Lincoln’s final race of the season.

An inversion of eight following time trials and qualifying placed Schuchart on the outside of the front row for the start. He chased polesitter Tim Glatfelter the first two laps before grabbing the lead. He led the rest of the way, despite late-race pressure from tenth-starting and hard charger Danny Dietrich, who actually passed Schuchart for the lead in lapped traffic as the final caution came out for a spinning Brent Marks exiting turn four of lap 23. But on the final restart, Schuchart pulled away from the 2012 track champ to score his second win of the year and second career 410 sprint car victory.

Counting the $4,000 winner’s share, $519 bonus from Miller Brothers Chevrolet (representing Rahmer’s 519 career wins), and lap money ($35 per lap to the leader representing Rahmer’s 35 years of racing), prize money for Schuchart’s win totaled $5,324.

Dietrich settled for second, with Lance Dewease, Rahmer, and Brian Montieth completing the top five. Sixth through tenth were Greg Hodnett (in the John Trone sprinter at Lincoln for the final time), Jacob Allen, Glaltfelter, Kyle Moody, and Steve Owings.

410 Sprint heats were won by Danny Dietrich, Allen, and Hodnett.

In his final career race, fast time in time trials over the 22-car field was set by Fred Rahmer with a one-lap time of 13.435-seconds (100.484 mph).

Former car owners Bob Stewart, Al Hamilton, and Jim and Sandy Kline, best friend Don Ott, long-time sponsors Bob Palmer and Tom Linder from Miller Brothers Chevrolet, and wife Debbie were among those who recognized Rahmer in during a ceremony in victory lane at intermission. The ceremony also included pre-recorded messages from World of Outlaw stars Doug Wolfgang and Steve Kinser.

Niki Young added an exclamation point to his championship season by scoring his third win of the year in the 20-lap 358 sprint car finale. After a flip by third-starting Dale Hammaker (who was uninjured) in turn one of the start, Young started third and chased polesitter Cris Eash (running the final race of his career) for the first six laps before taking the lead on lap seven.

Young led the rest of the way to score his eighth career Lincoln. Eash lost three spots when he did a ‘360’ in turn two, but kept going and crossed fifth at the end. Second through fourth were ’13 Williams Grove champ Kevin Nouse, Central PA point series champ Austin Hogue, and 2012 Lincoln champ Tim Wagaman.

Sixth through tenth were Chandler Leiby, Mike Bittinger, Matt Findley, Nathan Berwager, and Doug Hammaker.

358 Sprint heats were won by Ryan Wilson, Nouse, and Young

Will Walls claimed his second win of the year and brother Brian Walls claimed his first-ever track championship in the thundercar division.

Will Walls started tenth and grabbed the lead from front row starter and race-long leader Roy Warehime on lap 11. He led the rest of the way for his ninth career Lincoln win.

Brother Brian Walls lost a rear end on the first lap, but his eight season victories had resulted in a big enough points lead to secure his first career track title.

Warehime crossed second, followed by John Stoll, Jr., Danny Beard, and Wayne Dutterer.

Sunday night’s “Last Call” program closed out the season at Lincoln. Upcoming events include the Lincoln race car flea market on Saturday, November 16th and the track annual award banquet on Saturday, November 23rd.

Lincoln will open the 2014 outdoor racing season in the Northeast on Saturday, February 22nd with a 410 sprint car-only show beginning at 2:00 p.m.
