YORK, PA, 11/23/13 - Lincoln Speedway track champions and special year-end awards were handed out at the Holiday Inn in York Saturday night, November 23rd. More than 200 people were in attendance to watch the crowning of the 410 sprint, 358 sprint, and thundercar champions for 2013 and the top eight point series finishers in the combined Lincoln/Trail-Way Precise Racing Series/Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic 358 Late Model Point Series. The top finishers in the season-long point series for all four divisions were honored as well as special awards.

RAHMER CLAIMS 11TH LAWRENCE CHEVROLET LINCOLN TITLE IN FINAL SEASON

For the 11TH in the last 20 years, National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Fred Rahmer was crowned track champion in 2013. In 28 races, Rahmer scored three wins, 26 top-10s, and 22 top-fives in his final season of competitive 410 sprint car racing in the Pigeon Hills. The annual Daryl Gohn/Glenn Gohn Senior Memorial was career win number 168 with good friend and three-time NASCAR Champ Tony Stewart in the field, and Rahmer’s 169th and final career Lincoln win came on Fisher Auto Parts Night August 24th.

It was also the first track titles for car owner Rob Sell and sponsor JM Bullion. Rahmer’s title also secured Moon Byers and Freddie Rahmer the Mechanics of the Year award.

Four-time track champ (2008-2011) Brian Montieth of Phoenixville was the winningest driver during the year, with seven feature victories on the season, upping his career Lincoln win total to 41, passing Johnny Mackison, Sr. and Lance Dewease for seventh on the all-time win list. Montieth finished second to Rahmer in points with 23 top-five and 24 top-10 finishes on the year. Among his big wins were the “Ice Breaker 30” opener, the annual Hilly Rife Memorial, the annual Brandon Little Memorial/Fallen Firefighters Night, the annual Hank Gentzler Manufacturers Appreciation Race, and the Kenny Weld Memorial.

The other three-time winners during the season were third-place Alan Krimes (who won the annual All-Start Circuit of Champions show) and sixth-place Brent Marks. Double winners during the season were 2012 track champ Danny Dietrich (who won the May World of Outlaws show), Greg Hodnett, Jim Siegel, and Logan Schuchart.

Cole Duncan joined Schuchart as first-time winners in 2013.

Single winners during the season were most-improved driver Glenndon Forsythe, Stevie Smith, and Adam Wilt.

Jim Siegel and Cory Haas finished fourth and fifth in season points.

Third-generation driver Jordan Mackison, who finished the season 14th in points, was recognized as Lincoln’s 2013 rookie of-the-year, one year after older brother Hunter took the same honor.

Completing the top-10 in season points were Ryan Smith, Adam Wilt, Gerard McIntyre, Jr., and Dietrich.

All told, there were 12 different winners in 28 races at Lincoln in 2013.

Rahmer left two other lasting marks in his final year, setting a new track record for both one lap (13.089 seconds) and 25 laps (6:20.436).

Post-weight rule track records were also set in 2013 by Gerard McIntyre, Jr. (six laps at a time of 1:24.420), Brent Marks (ten laps at a time of 2:12.817), and all-time one-lap track record holder Lance Dewease (12 laps at a time of 2:48.149).

NIKI YOUNG CLAIMS FIRST LINCOLN SPEEDWAY KEIZER ALUMINUM WHEELS TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP

In a season that saw 13 different winners in 21 events, East Berlin’s Nike Young was the most consistent of all drivers in claiming his first-ever track title in the 358 sprint car division.

And it came down to the final laps of the final points race, with Young’s fourth-place finish just good enough to hold off two-time track champ and second-place finisher Jeff Rohrbaugh for a 10-point final margin of victory for the track title. Young’s third win of the year came in the final race of the season (a non-points race) and boosted his career win total to eight, moving him into a tie with Brian Seidel and Eric Stambaugh for tenth on the all-time Lincoln 358 sprint win list. Young scored 19 top-10 and 15 top-five finishes in 21 events.

Rohrbaugh, who won twice, finished in the top-10 16 times, and scored 10 top-five finishes, settled for second in season points. His two wins moved him into a four-way tie with Billy Dietrich, Greg Leiby, and Adrian Shaffer for sixth-place on the all-time Lincoln win list with nine.

Central PA Point Series champ Austin Hogue of Manchester was the winningest driver in the 358 sprint division with five wins on the season. He missed a few shows and finished fifth in season points on the heels of 17 top-10 and 13 top-five finishes.

Tyler Ross, who was one of seven first-time winners during the season recorded 16 top-10 and 11 top-five finishes en route to third in season points and was recognized as the division’s most improved driver in 2013.

2012 track champ Tim Wagaman (fourth in season points), Matt Campbell, J.B. Cunningham, Chase Dietz, Chandler Leiby, Austin Reed, and Ross were among the other first-time Lincoln winners.

Campbell, Dietz (voted the division’s rookie of-the-year, and Leiby all scored their first career wins before their 16th birthdays.

Sixth through tenth in season points were Dietz, Brie Hershey, Matt Findley, Dale Hammaker, and Chris Arnold.

Walls finished in the top-five in all but two races.

The only other Lincoln thundercar winners were Duane Watson (who won the “Spring Thaw” opener and then switched to the 358 sprints after four races), Jason Townsend, and double-winner Will Walls (brother to the track champ).

Townsend, with five top-five and ten top-10 finishes), Mikey Guise (with two top-fives and 11 top-10 finishes), Todd Miller (with six top-five and ten top-10 finishes), and Wayne Dutterer (with six top-five and nine top-10 finishes) were second through fifth and season points.

TRAVIS MEASE CLAIMS PRECISE RACING PRODUCTS/HOOSIER MID-ATLANTIC LINCOLN/TRAIL-WAY 358 LATE MODEL CHAMPIONSHIP

Harrisburg’s Travis Mease bested 2012 series champ Grant Adams to win his first career title in the 10-race Lincoln/Trail-Way Precise Racing Products/Hoosier Mid-Atlantic 358 late model point series.

Mease, who won one race in the series, finished 22 points ahead of Adams with by finishing in the top-10 in every race and in the top-five six times.

Adams won two races and had five top-five and nine top-10 finishes.

Single-race winner Cam Zeigler, series win leader Gene Knaub (5 wins), and Pat Beard finished third through fifth in series.

Though Knaub won half of the races, he only competed in seven of the races yet finished in the top-five in six of them. He failed to start the other race after having engine problems after winning his heat and drawing the pole starting position.

Tyler Horst, Brad Shank, and Bernie Beard were sixth through eighth in points. Ninth place Bobby Beard picked up a series win in only six appearances in the 10-race series.

The top-eight drivers were presented with point checks at the Lincoln banquet.
