GEESEY CLAIMS “ARCH NIGHT” WIN IN LINCOLN 358 SPRINT MAIN

D.J. Mease scores first career Lincoln win in 358 late models; Ryan Rupp claims first Lincoln super sportsman win

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 7/3/2010 - There was no catching Scott Geesey in the 20-lap "358" sprint car feature at Lincoln Speedway Saturday night.

Geesey started on the pole and led every lap en route to his first win of the season, becoming the seventh different winner in eight 2010 events at the Pigeon Hills oval.

Third-starting Chad Trout was scored second every lap, and pulled alongside the Credit Connection #18 several times. But with a narrow track, Trout was never able to muster up the traction to make the pass.

"I kinda knew that with Chad behind me, he wasn’t going to try anything dumb," said a happy Geesey in victory lane, "If he was leading, he would have know the same thing."

"With the track the way it was, it was just rubber down, and you gotta get to the lead first," continued Geesey, "I’m just happy to win. The other week I thought we were going to win and Stevie (Storrie) beat me out, and he did a real good job. Chad a heck of a racer and all-around great guy at the race track and away from the race track. It’s great to beat him, but it wouldn’t have bothered me to run second to him."

Trout settled for second, with Tim Wagaman, Keith Prutzman, and Logan Schuchart completing the top five. Sixth through tenth were 12th-starting Brook Weibley, Scott Fisher, Eric Tomecek, Billy Johns, and John Barnett.

It was Geesey’s second career Lincoln 358 sprint win, to go along with one 410 win in the Pigeon Hills.

Heats for the 43 "358" Sprints were won by Barnett, Geesey, Jay Galloway, and Wagaman. Twin consolations were won by Adrian Shaffer and Steve Owings.

Harrisburg’s D.J. Mease achieved a life-long goal by claiming his first Lincoln Speedway win in the 20-lap 358 late model feature.

Mease started fourth, crossed third behind outside front row starter Grant Adams and polesitter John Ebersole the first five laps, and moved past Ebersole into the runner-up spot on lap six. He then chased Adams the next five laps before wrestling the race lead from Adams on lap 12.

As Mease was working his way to the front, so was ninth-starting Gene Knaub, who moved past Ebersole into third on lap nine and drove around Adams for second on lap 14.

Knaub quickly closed on Mease, but a 19th-lap caution for a spinning Craig Wagaman in turns three and four eliminated lapped traffic as a factor.

Mease pulled away over the final two laps for a .47-second win over Knaub, with Adams, Ebersole, and Shaun Jones completing the top five. Sixth through tenth were Bobby Beard, Carl Billet, Travis Mease, Mike Walls, and Bernie Beard.

With Knaub’s win and Mease’s third-place finish at Williams Grove one week earlier, Saturday’s finish sets up a dramatic finale to the three-night Williams Grove/Lincoln/Trail-Way "Shootout" series to be held at Trail-Way Speedway this coming Friday night (7/9). That series will split $2,000 in bonus money to the ten race teams with the best three-night combined finishes at the three tracks.

Heats for the 35 "358" Late Models were won by Carl Billet, Travis Mease, and Bobby Beard, with Chase Billet winning the consolation.

Polesitter Ryan Rupp avoided several multi-car crashes by staying out front and picked up his first-ever Lincoln Speedway win in the 25-lap super sportsman feature.

An 11-car melee which blocked the track on turn one of the first lap reshuffled the field for the restart.

On the second attempt to start the race, Rupp and third-starting Chad Criswell grabbed first and second, and they stayed there the rest of the way. Duaine Smith, Jason Fry, and Steve Wilbur completed the top five.

Sixth through tenth were Dave Socks, Paul Miler, Carmen Perigo, Bobby Hockenberry, and 20th-starting Gregg Foster.

Heats for the 30 Super Sportsman were won by Criswell, Mike Enders, and Duaine Smith, with John Garman winning the consolation.

Next Saturday night, July 10th, at 7 PM, it will be KIDS NIGHT at Lincoln Speedway with special give-aways for children in attendance. The three-division show will feature the Lawrence Chevrolet 410 Sprints, the Keizer Aluminum Wheels 358 Sprints, and Thundercars. Gates will open at 5 PM.
