ALAN KRIMES 12TH WINNER IN 15 RACES IN LINCOLN “410" SPRINTS

Logan Schuchart scores popular first career Lincoln win in "358" sprints;
Shank celebrates 20th birthday with thundercar win

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 7/10/2010 - Alan Krimes coaxed a "worn out" motor to the finish in making short work of a strong field to claim his first Lincoln win of the year in the 25-lap "410" sprint car feature Saturday night.

The Denver driver started sixth after front row starter John Rudisill spun and stacked up four other cars in turn three of the first lap, advanced to third by the end of the second lap, caught Derek Sell for second on lap three, and took the lead from polesitter and race-long leader Ed Aikin in turns three and four of lap six.

After that, there was no catching Krimes, whose final margin of victory over runner-up Brian Leppo was 2.4 seconds.

"It’s been a while since I’ve been here, I almost forgot how to get here!" said Krimes upon exiting his Conestoga Valley Garage/Krimes Racing Engines No.87 in victory lane, "It feels good to be back...we were fast in the heat, and they finally didn’t water the top for one of these races, and I think that helped us a little bit because I like to run the bottom."

"I got a real good start in the feature and got up to second or third and then once I got out in front I was just trying to run as smooth as I could," Krimes continued. "I wasn’t going to go off the bottom unless I heard somebody and we held on."

"This motor has got to be worn out," said Krimes, "I believe it’s on its 19th race, and it’s been due for a rebuild for about eight races...when you’re out front there you’re just waiting for something to break when you count the number of laps on this motor. But it held together."

Though it was Krimes’ seventh career Lincoln win, it was his first in the Pigeon Hills since August 30, 2008. He became the 12th different winner in 15 races so far this year.

Leppo’s impressive second-place run came from seventh starting spot, with Lance Dewease coming from his original 10th starting spot for third, points leader Brian Montieth (who started 11th) crossing fourth, and Mark Smith fifth. Completing the top ten were 19th-starting Doug Esh (in the Pancho’s Racing Products #93), Brent marks, 21st-starting Danny Dietrich, 20th-starting Fred Rahmer, and Adam Wilt.

Esh, Dietrich, and Rahmer all qualified through the consolation event. Rahmer was leading his heat when a front axle broke in turn four.

Heats for the 28 "410" Sprints were won by Aikin, Josh Wells, and Krimes, with Esh winning the consolation.

Thirty-nine years to the day after his grandfather (Bobby Allen) scored the 24th of his 75 career wins at Lincoln, Logan Schuchart drove to his first career win in the 20-lap "358" sprint car feature.

"This is the only place I ever wanted to be," said a jubilant Schuchart in victory lane, "Pappy has taught me so much, and this has been a lifelong dream!"

Schuchart started tenth and was already in third by the end of the third lap. He got by third-starting Denny Gross on lap four.

Rick Horn grabbed the lead from his outside front row starting spot and led the first five laps before Schuchart made the race-winning pass on lap six.

Horn hung onto second for the next six laps before ninth-starting Glenndon Forsythe grabbed the runner-up spot. Forsythe got one last chance with a 17th-lap caution, but could never catch the Kitty Hawk Restaurant/Speedway 94 #1s.

Horn faded to sixth at the end, with Doug Hammaker, points leader Dale Hammaker, and 21st-starting Adrian Shaffer completing the top five.

Heats for the 36 "358" Sprints were won by Jan Luckenbaugh, Horn, Gross, and Doug Hammaker, with Shaffer winning the consolation.

Gettysburg’s Brad Shank shook off a season of frustration and celebrated his 20th birthday by picking up his first 2010 Lincoln Speedway thundercar win in their 20 lap feature.

Shank, who started fourth, chased polesitter and race-long leader Jamie Zentmyer and third-starting Danny Beard for the first 10 laps. Shank got around beard for second on lap 11 and then went after Zentmyer.

Zentmyer did all he could to hold him off but with three laps to go Shank squeezed under him to take the lead and led the final laps to take the checkered .53-seconds over point-leader Gino Comi for his second career Thundercar win.

Zentmyer held on for third, Mike Slaybaugh fourth and Mikey Guise fifth. Completing the top-10 were Beard, Sam Gallagher, Justin Mong, Kyle Martin, Brian Walls.

Heats for the Thundercars were won by Beard and Walls.

Next Saturday night, July 17th, at 7:30 PM, it will be PEPSI NIGHT at Lincoln Speedway with the Lawrence Chevrolet 410 Sprinters being joined by the traveling United Racing Company (URC) Sprinters in a special two-division show. Gates will open at 5:30 PM.
