$5,000-to-Win 5th Annual Weldon Sterner Memorial next Saturday, May 3rd

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA, 4/12/08 - With blackened skies and lightning in the backdrop, Lincoln Speedway officials made a gallant effort to beat the impending storms which swept through the Central Pennsylvania area Saturday night.

But just after all qualifying was completed, which included record-breaking performances in the 410 Sprint heats, the skies opened up in a deluge of rain, hail and lightening just as the sprinters were being called to the track for there feature.

Once the weather front moved into the Pigeon Hills area it was quickly apparent that it would not leave anytime soon, forcing officials to postpone the three features to later dates.

No definitive make-up dates were immediately set.

Initial tentative make-up dates discussed would have the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass 410 sprints makeup feature on May 10th and the Pennsylvania 305 sprints would make-up there feature when they return on August 30th. No date was yet speculated for the thundercars whom will start all 26 cars in competition.

Heats for the 23 "410" sprint cars were won by Doug Dodson, Alan Krimes and John Westbrook. Dodson set a brand new 10-lap track record with a time of 2:13.72 seconds, eclipsing the old record of 2:14.85 set on October 20, 2007 by Cody Darrah. Krimes’ heat race time also beat the old record held by Darrah.

Heat races for the 21 Pennsylvania 305 sprint cars were won by Mark Watkins and Jim Kennedy.

Heats for the 26 thundercars were won by Duane Watson, Ronnie Thomas and Brad Shank.

Next Saturday night, May 3rd, Lincoln Speedway will hold the 5th Annual Weldon Sterner Memorial for the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass 410 Sprints. They will be joined by the Keizer Aluminum Wheels 358 Sprints and thundercars. Time trials for the $5,000-to-win Sterner Memorial begin at 7 PM. Gates will open at 5 PM.
