ABBOTTSTOWN, PA, 7/26/08 - Salfordsville’s Fred Rahmer used his years of experience to dodge the proverbial bullet Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway.

Two red flags and five caution flags over the first three laps of the 25-lap Daryl Gohn/Glenn Gohn Memorial had everyone on edge. Rahmer then methodically drove through the field from his 13^th starting spot to chase veteran racer Craig Keel for the lead in the closing laps.

A late-race caution for a stopped Josh Wells with three laps to go was all Rahmer needed, as he slid under the Weedsport, NY racer in the first and second turns on the restart and drove away to a 1.10-second win over Cris Eash to register his milestone 160^th career win at the Pigeon Hills oval.

"We changed a left rear tire just before the start, and I think that helped us," said Rahmer in victory lane, "You got those guys starting up front and that makes it tough. It’s tough sleddin’ right now."

A flip by former Gohn Jewelers’ track champ Bobby Weaver in the third and fourth turns started the series of early-race mishaps. Then a four-car tangle on the second lap was followed by a Mike Bittinger end-over-end flip on the restart while running fourth. He collected fifth-place Jeff Busby and Brian Montieth.

Outside frontrow starter Dodson held the top-spot up until that point with polesitter Shawn Weaver in second.

Then on the fourth lap, Cody Darrah slapped the front stretch wall and slowed. The race-leading Dodson suddenly found himself closing quickly on the Red Lion racer and slammed into him in the first and second turns to bring out yet another caution.

Weaver assumed the lead for the restart and Pat Cooper brought out the caution with a spin in the first turn. On the next restart, several cars stacked up at the cone, resulting in Chad Layton and John Rudisill locking bumpers and spinning down the front stretch. Rudisill was done for the night but Layton was able to tag the rear.

The next 19 laps went non-stop, with Weaver holding off numerous challenges by Keel before the Pearl Technologies sprinter took control with a slider in turns three and four of lap 18. Three laps later, 13^th-starting Rahmer made the same move in the same turns to snatch second from Weaver.

A familiar Rahmer slider on the restart sealed Rahmer’s sixth Lincoln win of the year.

"Being in first on the restart...you’re always in the victim’s spot," said Rahmer, "I was lucky enough to get it done there. A lot of yellows came out and hurt me. I had passed cars and they didn’t count the lap, and that’s just the way it goes. When it’s your turn it’s your turn, and it was my turn tonight."

Cris Eash, who started 11^th, followed Rahmer past Keel into second on lap 23 and finished there, with Keel settling for third, Doug Esh coming from the back after an early-race crash to cross fourth, and Montieth coming from the rear to finish fifth. Sixth through tenth were Weaver, Jim Siegel, 16^th-starting Niki Young, Aaron Ott, and Layton.

Heats for the 26 "410" Sprints were won by Shawn Weaver, Bittinger and Scott Geesey, with Layton winning the consolation.

Aaron Ott ended a successful night of double-duty by claiming his third win of the year in the 20-lap "358" sprint car feature.

And no one was more surprised than Ott himself, who was running third when only the second caution of the race came out on lap 18.

Danny Dietrich, who started 12^th and was clearly the class of the field, took the lead from race-long leader Keith Prutzman on lap 14 and was on his way to his second win of the year. But Dietrich was called for a two-row jump on the second attempt to start the race, and was penalized four spots. Ott assumed second as Prutzman was again placed in the lead.

Ott slid in front of Prutzman through turns one and two of the restart, and drove away to the victory.

Jeff Rohrbaugh caught Prutzman on the final lap four second, with Gerard McIntyre, Jr. fourth and Dietrich fifth. Completing th top ten were Eric Tomecek, Scott Geesey, Todd Rittenhouse, Jr., 21^st-starting Chad Criswell, and Adam Wilt.

The only other caution of the race came out on the initial start, when Brad McClelland and the Hammakers got together in turn four. Dale Hammaker was done for the night. During the caution, polesitter Rick Horn, experiencing mechanical problems, opted for the rear, putting Prutzman on the pole for the restart.

Heats for the 37 "358" Sprints were won by Rick Horn, Tomecek, Ott, and Cale Griffin, with Criswell winning the consolation.

Gettysburg’s Brian Walls continued his winning ways by leading all 20-laps to earn his third thundercar victory in 2008. Walls, who was scheduled to start fourth, moved up into the outside frontrow starting spot when Jamie Zentmyer failed to report out for the feature. Walls immediately jumped out into the lead at the drop of the green bringing last-week’s first time winner Ronnie Thomas and Larry Niederer along.

Thomas ran second the entire distance with Kyle Martin coming on strong in the closing laps to finish third. Points leader Sam Gallagher came back from a fourth lap spin to finish fourth and Danny Beard fifth.

Completing the top-10 were Scott Fisher, Jimmy Combs, Brad Shank, Josh Ulrich and Al Crammer.

Heats for the 21 thundercars were won by Walls and Barry Rinehart.

Next Saturday night, August 2nd Lincoln Speedway will once again host it’s Annual KIDS NIGHT with hundreds of prizes available for the children in attendance.

The three division show will feature the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass 410 Sprints, the Kreizer Aluminum Wheels 358 Sprints and Thundercars. Racing action will get underway at 7:30 PM with gates opening at 5:30 PM.
