RAIN POSTPONES LINCOLN DIRT LATE MODEL SPEEDWEEK SHOW TO AUGUST 12TH
Jun 10, 2009, 22:39
Chad Smith wins first of year in street stock make-up feature from 5/16; regular show to be run 8/12

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 6/10/09 - Lincoln Speedway gave it the old college try on Wednesday night.

But persistent rain which arrived at 9:20 p.m. forced postponement of the remainder of the event until Wednesday, August 12th.

The program was to be leg five of the Inaugural Appalachian Mountain Dirt Late Model Speedweek Series.

Forty-seven super stock late models turned out for the event, and the super stocks were in a caution flag on lap four of the second of two consolation events when the rains arrived.

Lincoln’s promoters waited until 10:00 p.m. before throwing in the towel. Because the show will not be completed before the end of the Speedweek series, points will not be awarded for time trials or qualifying.

But the full purse will be paid out on August 12th. The $7,000 winner’s share includes $2,000 from the Grinestaff family as part of the Second Annual Chargin’ Charlie Grinestaff Memorial. The Grinestaffs will also give a $500 bonus to the hard charger on August 12th.

The August 12th show will begin with conclusion of the second consolation event, at which two more qualifiers will be determined. That will set the field for the 40-lap "A" main. Rain checks will be honored on August 12th. Admission for those attending the August 12th show without a rain check will be $10.

The August 12th show will also include a complete program for the street stocks, which were only able to run their May 16th make-up feature.

Winner of the street stock feature was Chad Smith, who came from eighth starting spot to claim his first win of the year. Smith drove under both second-place Korey Sites and leader Steve Dove to grab the top spot exiting turn four of lap 16, and took the checkered .66-seconds in front of Sites. Dove held on for third, with Joe Whitely and 12th-starting Paul Morgan completing the top five.

Heats for the Late Models were won by Jeff Rine, Rick Eckert, DJ Myers, and Josh Richards, with Scotty Haus winning the first of the B-Mains.

Setting a new one-lap track record in time trials over the 47-car field was Jeremy Miller with a one-lap time of 15.540-seconds (86.874 MPH), breaking the old record of 16.274 seconds set by Rick Eckert on August 13, 2005.

In fact, the top-20 qualifiers all broke the old record when time trials were complete.

This Saturday night, June 13th, the All Star Circuit of Champion 410 sprint cars will be back at Lincoln Speedway to participate in the 57th Anniversary/John Gleim Jr. Excavating Night show. The 30-lap feature will pay $5,700 to the winner. In addition, the ARDC Midget will be back after a several year absence to round out the evening’s racing action. Time trials will get underway at 7 PM, with gates opening at 5 PM.
