DEWEASE COMES ON LATE FOR LINCOLN STERNER MEMORIAL WIN
Jul 31, 2010, 23:06
Chris Arnold wins career first 358 Sprint feature; Sam Gallagher wins second in thundercars

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 7/31/10 - Lance Dewease continued his summer surge Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway. Dewease came on strong during the late stages of the 30-lap Weldon Sterner Memorial, using a lap 24 restart to his advantage and then drove to his 34th career win in the Pigeon Hills.

Dewease, of Fayetteville has had a great two weeks of racing with two World of Outlaws wins and now capturing the $4,000 top prize for his first career Sterner Memorial win.

"Weldon Sterner changed the layout of this track and was a long time car owner as well, and that shows his love for the sport," said the Fayetteville driver. "It’s a privilege to win a race in his honor."

Dewease lined up sixth in the 24-car field as front row starter Alan Krimes drove off from the field during the early laps.

Krimes’ big lead was wiped out on lap 11 when Michael Carber brought out a caution.

Krimes once again drove off from the field following the restart as Dewease ran a distant second as they worked their way through heavy traffic.

Doug Dodson flipped on the 20th lap and collected Cory Haas to bring out a red flag.

Krimes once again maintained the lead on the restart but this time Dewease stayed with the young Denver driver until a lap 24 yellow for two-time defending track champion Brian Montieth, who spun in turn two.

On the restart, Dewease got a good run on Krimes and slid up in front of him exiting the second corner to grab the top spot as Daryn Pittman followed him into the runner-up spot.

"Alan’s been really good this year and we’ve been pretty good here lately too," said the winner. "We didn’t get a good start and with Alan off the front row and all the lapped cars, we just had to be patient and wait for the race track to come to us. We made some changes under that red flag and it just came to life. I couldn’t have asked for a better race car."

Despite a lap 27 yellow for Danny Dietrich, whose top five run came to an end when he stopped in turn two, Dewease went unchallenged to the win, his second win of the season.

"We’ve been really good the last two weeks and I finally got that first win I’ve wanted to Lernerville and then what can you say about last Friday at Williams Grove," he said. "We love to beat those guys (World of Outlaws). My guys just have this car working real good right now."

Pittman, Krimes, Brent Marks, who started 13th, Adam Wilt, Fred Rahmer, Brian Leppo, 17th starting Johnny Mackison, Jr., Aaron Ott and Jim Siegel completed the top 10 finishers.

Heats for the 31 "410" Sprints were won by Aaron Ott, Johnny Mackison, Jr., Keith Kauffman and Kyle Pruitt. Bill Stine won the consolation.

Jim Siegel paced time trials with a lap of 13.438 seconds, earning a $300 bonus.

Dillsburg driver Chris Arnold gave himself a great 26th birthday gift by winning his first career 20-lap 358 Sprint car feature.

Arnold started on the front row and led all 20 laps in the non-stop feature. It was the first race Arnold qualified for in his brief 358 sprint car career and he became the ninth different winner in 10 races this season.

Tim Berkheimer finished second over Logan Schuchart, who started 12th, Bill Dietrich, Ted Thomas, Chad Trout, Jason Cherry, Scott Fisher, Austin Reed and Brook Weibley.

Logan Schuchart, Bill Dietrich, Jeff Rohrbaugh and Chad Trout were heat race winners for the 46 "358" Sprint cars. Double consolations were won by Jordan Frontz and Dale Hammaker.

Sam Gallagher raced hard with Jamie Zentmyer during most of the 20-lap thundercar feature and edged ahead on lap 19 to take the lead and held on for his third win of the year.

Gallagher started eighth on the grid, moved into second on lap eight and hounded the leader to take the lead after switching lanes on the speedway to make the winning pass.

Following the Hanover driver were Zentmyer, Brian Walls, Mike Slaybaugh and points leader Gino Comi.

Sam Gallagher and Kyle Martin won thundercar heats for the 18 cars.

Next Saturday night, August 7th, Lincoln Speedway will host the big WORLD ENERGY SYSTEMS WORLD 358 SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP for the 358 Sprinters with $5,500 going to the winner. Several other contingency prizes will also be awarded in this largest-ever Lincoln Speedway purse for the 358 sprinters. It will also be part of the Trail-Way/Lincoln Speedway Shoot-Out for 358 sprints. Joining them will be the 305 Sprints & Thundercars. Gates will open at 5:30 PM.
