THE RESULTS OF LAST NIGHTS MEETING WAS GOOD, WITH EIGHT 410 AND TWENTY-SIX 358 TEAMS ON HAND. THERE WAS A LOT OF GOOD QUESTIONS ASKED, WITH A LOT OF QUESTIONS ANSWERED. TIRE REPS FROM ALL THREE MANUFACTURES WERE ON HAND (HOOSIER, AMERICAN RACER, AND GOODYEAR), BUT THERE WERE NO TRACK PROMOTERS THAT ATTENDED THE “OPEN” MEETING WITH SOME PERSONALLY INVITED.
GOODYEAR NOTES:
~REPRESENTATIVES ON HAND WERE PAT AND BRENT FROM COMPETITION TIRE EAST.
~COST ON TIRES WILL BE $198 FOR A RR AND $185 FOR A LR.
~RIGHT REAR WILL COME IN 3 COMPOUNDS A 100(BEING THE SOFTEST), 200, AND 300(BEING THE HARDEST)
~LEFT REARS WILL COME IN 2 COMPOUNDS A 100 AND 200 AND WILL HAVE SIZES OF 91”, 93”, 95”, AND 97”.
~IF THERE IS AN OPEN TIRE RULE, GOODYEAR DOES NOT HAVE AN OPEN COMPETITION TIRE READY.
~THE SPEC RIGHT REAR TIRE IS DESIGNED TO UNHOOK THE RACE CAR.
~THE REPS DID NOT KNOW WHETHER THERE WAS AN OPEN COMPETITION PROPOSAL REQUESTED.
HOOSIER NOTES:
~REPRESENTATIVE WAS RANDY FROM HOOSIER TIRE MID-ATLANTIC.
~IF THERE WAS AN OPEN COMPETITION TIRE RULE YOU WOULD SEE THE OPEN COMPETITION RIGHT REAR TIRES ROUGHLY $20.00 MORE THEN THE CURRENT PRICE. CURRENT “SC” RIGHT REARS ARE $196 AND LEFT REARS ARE $184
~HOOSIER WAS ASKED FOR SEPARATE PROPOSALS FOR THE 358’S AND THE 410’S FROM LINCOLN AND WILLIAMS GROVE.
~SELINSGROVE AND PORT ROYAL ALREADY SIGNED HOOSIER “SC” TIRE RULE. TRAIL-WAY, LINCOLN, AND WILLIAMS GROVE SPEEDWAYS HAVE NOT SIGNED ANY TIRE AGREEMENTSM YET.
AMERICAN RACER NOTES:
~REPRESENTATIVES AT THE MEETING WERE MARK AND FRED FROM LIAS TIRE.
~REGARDLESS IF THERE WAS AN AMERICAN RACER TIRE RULE (LIKE URC), OR AN OPEN COMPETITION TIRE, PRICES WOULD BE $165.00 FOR A RIGHT REAR AND $155.00 FOR A LEFT REAR.
~THEY WERE ASKED FOR A TIRE RULE PROPOSAL FROM LINCOLN AND WILLIAMS GROVE AND RESPONDED WITH ONE. THEY WERE NOT ASKED FOR AN OPEN COMPETITION PROPOSAL, BUT SUPPLIED A PROPOSAL FOR THAT OPPORTUNITY.
TOPICS GENERALLY AGREED ON:
~THE POINT FUND HAS NOT INCREASED SINCE THE TIRE RULE CAME INTO EFFECT YEARS AGO.
~SPEC TIRES ARE MAKING RACING WORST DUE TO THE TIRES UNHOOKING THE CAR. THAT DOESN’T MAKE RACING BETTER. IT MAKES IT MORE FOLLOW THE LEADER.
~WHY DO WE HAVE TO DO THE SAME AS THE OUTLAWS EVERY TIME THEY CHANGE A RULE?
~THE RACE TRACK ITSELF NEEDS TO GET OUT OF THE TIRE BUSINESS. THE MONEY THAT’S COLLECTED FROM THE TIRE MANUFACTURER TO MANDATE THESE SPEC TIRES, IS SUPPOSED TO GO TOWARDS A POINT FUND, BUT NEVER SHOWS UP THERE! AGAIN, IT WAS AGREED UPON THAT OPENING UP THE TIRE RULE, WOULD CREATE GOOD COMPETITION BETWEEN ALL THREE TIRE MANUFACTURES. THEN TIRE DEALS WOULD TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES BETWEEN THE SUPPLIER AND THE RACER.
~WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT TRACK OWNERS AND PROMOTERS DO HAVE TO MAKE MONEY, WHEN IS ENOUGH, ENOUGH, WHEN IT COMES TO TAKING ADVANTAGE OF CERTAIN SITUATIONS?
~BIGGEST CONCERN OF ALL RACERS IS TO GET THE TRACK OWNERS AND PROMOTERS OUT OF THE TIRE BUSINESS. AND ALLOW THE RACERS TO MAKE THEIR OWN TIRE DEAL
THE MEETING WAS ADJOURNED AT 8:50 AND A VOTE ON A BALLOT WAS TAKEN. THE RESULTS OF THE 26 358 TEAMS WERE AS FOLLOWS:
22 TEAMS WANT OPEN COMPETITION
2 WOULD LIKE A HOOSIER TIRE RULE
1 WOULD LIKE OPEN COMPETITION TIRES BUT A COMPOUND RULE
1 WOULD LIKE AN AMERICAN RACER TIRE RULE.
AS FOR THE 8 410 TEAMS:
7 WOULD LIKE IT TO BE OPEN COMPETITION
1 WOULD LIKE IT TO BE OPEN COMPETITION WITH A 1 TIRE A NIGHT RULE ON THE RIGHT REAR
HOPEFULLY THIS WILL LET PROMOTERS KNOW WHAT DIRECTION THE RACERS ARE IN FAVOR OF.

it's obvious the reason for track tire deals is for the track to make money,points purse to be payed and a way to control teams with a lot of money not to dominate by using more tires. here is a way around part of the problem. i hate to type so i am gonna make brief with as much info as possible. each driver would pay 10.00 per race towards point fund. for example; 10.00 x 24 cars= 240.00 per race x 20 races=4800.00 every car that competes would pay(could be more cars or less pending how many show up for the nights event) towards the point fund. an increase in spots payed out would be the goal meaning instead of 10 spots being payed 15 possibly. if you do the math with this method in comparison in how much is spent on tires with the current formula this way is cheaper and you decide what tire you prefer. i have another idea that involves all 3 tire companies, but needs more planning. i am going to try writing it all down on paper and get someone to post it for me because i type sloowww. hope see some input positive or negative just trying to do my part, thanks.
