I'm starting to see some of those 358 wings that caused the debacle last season showing up again. For those of you who have forgotten or didn't know about that ordeal, here are the details.
Top wings must have sideboards that are flat and square to the center foil. The problem wings have right sideboards that flare outward at the lower rear and a protest of one last season cost a racer his first feature win. If you look at your wing from the rear and the rear edges of the two sideboards are not parallel with each other (the right board will look like it is tilted inward at the top and outward at the bottom), your wing likely is illegal and what you're looking at is what your fellow competitors will be looking at as they follow you around the track.
To check your wing as I will in the event of a protest, place a standard 90-degree carpenter's square against the center foil with the long end against the sideboard. If the sideboard is more than 1/2-inch away from the square at any point, the wing will be ruled illegal unless it was damaged during the last event in which it was run prior to the protest.
Also, I'm seeing way too many cars without the steering drag link tethered to the frame. What is even more puzzling is the lack of concern on the part of some of the teams without a tether. One told me he would "try to borrow one." Guys, this is a safety item and not having one is a rule violation for which you can be disqualified.
