BEN MURPHY LIGHT AT SCALES, SENTER DECLARED WINNER OF LINCOLN PA 600CC MICRO-SPRINT SPEEDWEEK SHOW
(Click on headline link above for full story and results)
Dylan Keim Claims First Career Win in All-american Outlaws
ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 6/28/09 - A wild night of racing that included a flip by one Murphy brother while leading and a disqualification the other Murphy brother when he was light at the scales saw Arkansas driver Travis Senter declared the winner of night number two of PA 600cc Micro-Sprint Speedweek at Lincoln Speedway Sunday night.
Penske Racing employee Ben Murphy came home from Concord, NC and came from 21st starting spot to take the lead from Senter on lap 15 and cross under the checkered flag first in the 25-lap "A" main. But he was light at the scales after the race, and the win was awarded to Senter.
Senter was also one of the cars Ben’s brother Jake passed for the lead coming off turn two of lap 14, but the pass involved contact, and Jake flipped down the backstretch just after taking the lead from his fourth starting spot.
Seventh-starting Heath Hehnly crossed third at the finish, but was awarded second after the Murphy disqualification. Third through fifth were Shane Lewis, Ryan Greth, and hard charger Tyler Walton (who started 20th). Sixth through tenth were Brett Schoenly, Ryan Smith, opening night Speedweek winner Mike Dicely, Jimmy Brookens, and Mike Rutherford.
Ninety-six (96) micros turned out for the Lincoln Speedweek show, with cars qualifying through for the "A" main through a series of 20 qualifying events (two for each of the cars), a "C" main, and a "B" main.
The "A" main was lined up heads-up by points gathered in the heats, with Tyson Hall gathering the most points and starting the pole. Hall failed to finish the feature and was credited with 18th finishing position.
It was heartbreak in the Pigeon Hills for one driver and a first-ever win for another driver in the 20-lap All-American Outlaw feature.
Gettysburg’s Dylan Keim took the lead when polesitter and race-long leader Joe Alder suffered a flat tire coming off turn two of the final lap to score his first career win. Keim, who started 11th, worked his way to the runner-up spot when he got by Al Daniels on lap 15. He could never get close enough to challenge the Alder #44, but he was there to take advantage as Alder fought to regain control of his ill-handling car.
Bill Brown, Jr. came from 21st starting spot to finish third, with Alder limping home fourth and Fred Cullum crossing fifth.
Heats for the 24 All-American Outlaws were won by Alder, Al Daniels, and Kevin Palmer.

MONTIETH CARRIES AMOCO COLORS TO WIN IN KEVIN GOBRECHT MEMORIAL
(Click on headline link above for full story & results)
Walls takes last lap Thundercar win
ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 6/27/09 - "I guess Kevin was sitting in this thing tonight," were the words from an emotional Brian Montieth after dominating opening night of the 19th annual Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway.
Montieth was referring to the late Kevin Gobrecht, who the race was run in memory as his Jerry Parrish owned team raced a car that was painted identical to the Amoco No. 93 sprint car that Gobrecht last drove before his untimely death ten years ago while racing with the World of Outlaws.
Montieth’s win was the fifth of the season at Lincoln and his 14th career win for the defending track champion. It was also Montieth’s first career Pennsylvania Speedweek feature win and puts him on top of the early Speedweek point chase.
"It was an honor to drive this car tonight," stated the Phoenixville driver following his $7,000 payday. "The Gobrecht family means a whole lot to this entire team."
Montieth made it known early that he was the car to beat.
Lining up on the pole for the 30-lap feature, he quickly jumped out front before Mike Erdley brought out a yellow with one lap complete with a spin in turn two. Two laps later, Erdley stopped again in turn three with mechanical problems while Cory Haas also stopped on the track with drive line issues.
Montieth set the pace on the restart over Brian Leppo and Greg Hodnett as 10th starting Cody Darrah began to show strength, moving into the top five by lap nine.
Darrah passed Hodnett for third place on lap 17 and drove under Leppo a lap later to move into the runner-up spot.
And like so many times this season, the Montieth-Darrah Shootout was about to begin!
With lapped traffic playing into the equation, Darrah closed on the leader with seven laps to go. Montieth got the break he needed on lap 24 when the rear end locked up in Leppo’s car sending him for a hard flip in turn three to end his great run.
It was just what Montieth needed as he drove away from Darrah over the final laps to capture the popular win n front of a packed house.
"It was mine to lose," Montieth stated. "It’s always better to run second in traffic. I thought I was gonna be going backwards. I’m sorry for Brian to bring out the red but I really needed a yellow and that’s what I got. This is all sort of a haze right now and we’ll see how long it keeps going."
Montieth’s win came in a Maxim chassis that has over 200 races on it. Parrish summed it up best in victory lane.
"I think we have the driver that best represents Kevin Gobrecht sitting in this car," Parrish said. "I told the guys today, if we can park this car in victory lane, they might tear the fence down."
It certainly was a storybook night for the Premier Motorsports team and the family of Kevin Gobrecht.
Darrah of Red Lion finished second with Thomasville’s Hodnett third.
Lancaster’s Doug Esh drove around Rahmer for the fourth spot coming off the fourth turn for the checkered flag.

DANNY DIETRICH CLAIMS FIRST CAREER 410 SPRINT WIN IN LINCOLN GOHN MEMORIAL
(Click on headline link above for full story and rundown)
Adrian Shaffer scores second win of the week in 358 sprints; Danny Beard wins non-stop thundercar feature
ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 6/20/09 -He was born a month after Glenn Gohn, Sr. and Daryl Gohn passed away, and he has a photo of Daryl Gohn in his personal collection.
And on Saturday night, 21- year-old Danny Dietrich held off one of the hottest drivers in sprint car racing to score his first career 410 Sprint win in the 21st Annual Daryl Gohn/Glenn Gohn Sr. Memorial at Lincoln Speedway.
Dietrich, who started sixth, took the lead on the eighth lap after he tangled with race-long leader Chris Knopp on the front stretch.
"I started the race around the top and came off four second, and I thought ‘Boy, this isn’t gonna happen again,’ Chris has been around racing long enough not to let that happen again," said a jubilant Dietrich in victory lane, "Coming off of four, I thought I had him cleared, but the contact was my mistake...I hope he isn’t mad or anything like that...but these days, racing with these guys, you can’t waste any time."
Once in front, he led the rest of the way. But it got interesting with five laps to go. Red Lion’s Cody Darrah closed on Dietrich’s bumper with five laps to go. Though young, Dietrich made some moves only expected of a veteran in dropping from his high line to the bottom of the track to block Darrah’s advances.
"I actually started getting tight on the top coming off the corners," said Dietrich, "I got my wing back a little far and I couldn’t move it forward. I saw Cody got to second on the board and I though he’d be coming. I heard him one lap in the middle of one and two, and I thought as tight as I was, I’d better get to the bottom and protect the lead. I figured if I got in hard and shut it down that maybe he would wash up and lose some ground, and everything went perfect after that."
Dietrich hung on over the final laps to pocket the increased $3,600 top prize given to him by the Gohn family.

MONTIETH EDGES DARRAH IN LINCOLN ALL-STAR THRILLER
(Click on healine link above for full results and story)
Drew Heistand comes from 14th to claim ARDC victory
ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 6/13/09 - "The Edge" lived up to his name at Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway.
With a huge crowd on its feet over the final five laps, defending track champ Brian Montieth came from ninth starting spot to grab the lead from Cody Darrah going down the back stretch of the final lap and claimed his first career O’Reilly Auto Parts All-Star sprint car win.
In another race for the ages, Montieth’s lead wasn’t even secure after taking the lead with a half-lap to go. In one last-ditch effort to win, Darrah pulled a slider on the Premier Auto Works/Auto Locator #21 in the final turns. But the ‘08 track champ let him go and powered under the J&K Auto Salvage/Eichelberger’s U-Pull-It #89 coming off turn four to cross less than two carlengths ahead of Darrah at the checkered.
"It was fun," said Montieth while gasping for breath in victory lane, "I screwed up there in traffic. The driver in second always has the advantage. Cody ran me clean. The last two weeks, it’s just been fun to race here. You can run side-by-side and nobody’s taking you out, and it results in clean racing...the way sprint car racing should be."
Defending All-Star champ Dale Blaney and Darrah started on the front row for the 30-lap event. Darrah grabbed the lead at the outset and the two ran one-two the first 16 laps before Blaney lost a three-lap wheel-to-wheel battle with Montieth on lap 17.
Montieth quickly closed on the leader as the pair drove through lapped traffic between laps 18 and 25, with Montieth actually scored the leader of lap 20. But Darrah used lapped traffic to reclaim the lead on lap 21, two laps before Doug Esh brought out the caution when he stopped at the end of the backstretch..
Fourth-starting Jim Siegel drove around Blaney for third on a 23rd-lap restart, two laps before Blaney with a tire going down, hit the outside wall in turns three and four of lap 26, bringing out the final caution of the race.
Over the final five laps, it was all-out warfare, with Darrah and Montieth swapping the lead several times per lap.
Alan Krimes assumed fourth for the final restart, and finished there, with Tim Shaffer the first All-Star to finish in fifth. Sixth through tenth were 13th-starting Fred Rahmer, Aaron Ott, Daryn Pittman, Brian Leppo, and Josh Wells.
"We’re running a car here tonight that has about 200 races on it," said car owner Jerry Parrish, "That’s unheard of. You know guys say their chassis run out in ten races...this car has 200 runs on it. Not the motor, but the car itself, and it still works. We’re going to run it until we destroy it. Then we’ll sit back and laugh about it and give it a little funeral and say ‘thanks, Buddy."

RAIN POSTPONES LINCOLN DIRT LATE MODEL SPEEDWEEK SHOW TO AUGUST 12TH
(Click on headline link for full story and results)
Chad Smith wins first of year in street stock make-up feature from 5/16; regular show to be run 8/12
ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 6/10/09 - Lincoln Speedway gave it the old college try on Wednesday night.
But persistent rain which arrived at 9:20 p.m. forced postponement of the remainder of the event until Wednesday, August 12th.
The program was to be leg five of the Inaugural Appalachian Mountain Dirt Late Model Speedweek Series.
Forty-seven super stock late models turned out for the event, and the super stocks were in a caution flag on lap four of the second of two consolation events when the rains arrived.
Lincoln’s promoters waited until 10:00 p.m. before throwing in the towel. Because the show will not be completed before the end of the Speedweek series, points will not be awarded for time trials or qualifying.
But the full purse will be paid out on August 12th. The $7,000 winner’s share includes $2,000 from the Grinestaff family as part of the Second Annual Chargin’ Charlie Grinestaff Memorial. The Grinestaffs will also give a $500 bonus to the hard charger on August 12th.
The August 12th show will begin with conclusion of the second consolation event, at which two more qualifiers will be determined. That will set the field for the 40-lap "A" main. Rain checks will be honored on August 12th. Admission for those attending the August 12th show without a rain check will be $10.
The August 12th show will also include a complete program for the street stocks, which were only able to run their May 16th make-up feature.
Winner of the street stock feature was Chad Smith, who came from eighth starting spot to claim his first win of the year. Smith drove under both second-place Korey Sites and leader Steve Dove to grab the top spot exiting turn four of lap 16, and took the checkered .66-seconds in front of Sites. Dove held on for third, with Joe Whitely and 12th-starting Paul Morgan completing the top five.
Heats for the Late Models were won by Jeff Rine, Rick Eckert, DJ Myers, and Josh Richards, with Scotty Haus winning the first of the B-Mains.
Setting a new one-lap track record in time trials over the 47-car field was Jeremy Miller with a one-lap time of 15.540-seconds (86.874 MPH), breaking the old record of 16.274 seconds set by Rick Eckert on August 13, 2005.
In fact, the top-20 qualifiers all broke the old record when time trials were complete.

MACKISON CLAIMS FIRST LINCOLN “410" SPRINT CAR WIN SINCE 2000
(Click on the headline link above for the full night's racing story)
Kyle Moody scores first career Lincoln "358" sprint win; Watson takes fourth of year in thundercars
ABBOTTSTOWN, PA , 6/6/09 - Mack is back!
Veteran racer Johnny Mackison Jr. used all his experience to fight off the relentless challenges of defending track champion Brian Montieth in the closing laps to pick up his first win since 2000 in the non-stop 25-lap "Premier Auto Works/Auto Locator Night" 410 sprint car feature at Lincoln Speedway Saturday night.
Mackison, originally scheduled to start seventh, survived two opening lap crashes, and chased down race-long leader Pat Cooper in the third turn of lap seven to slide under the Copper Lincoln/Mercury #26 for the lead. Mackison then diced his way through lapped traffic during the ensuing hectic non-stop action.
Meanwhile, 11th-starting Montieth was charging to the front in his usual high-flying style to pass 10th-starting Jim Siegel for the runner-up spot on lap 14. At the time, Mackison held a slim half-second lead.
By the 17th lap, Montieth and Siegel were back on the leader’s bumper as they continued to drive through the non-stop lapped traffic.
Then with two laps to go, Montieth made his move and shot under Mackison entering the first turn and slid up in front, only to have Mackison dive back down to the bottom and retake the lead up the backstretch. Mackison then hung on over the final lap to grab the checkered .66-seconds ahead of Montieth for his fifth career win at the Pigeon Hills oval, his first since September 2, 2000.
"It’s was exciting!," exclaimed Mackison upon exiting the B&B Metal Refinishing #65 in victory lane, "I was having pretty much fun. It’s been a long time!"
"We’ve really been struggling the past few years putting our own deal together," added Mackison, "We’ve been getting closer. We’ve had a lot of mechanical issues. We’re slowly replacing all the used parts we had...I really enjoy racing here and I’m glad to be here (victory lane)."
"My two boys have been racing go-karts on Friday nights," said Mackison of his one night-per-week schedule, "I’m building this program to run more, and as they get older we’ll get them into this deal. They’ll be behind me coming into these cars."
Jim Siegel crossed third, followed by Danny Dietrich and Niki Young. Sixth through tenth were Josh Wells, Cody Darrah, Cory Haas, Pat Cooper, and 19th-starting Fred Rahmer.
With the win, Mackison became the ninth different winner in 14 events in 2009.
